How We Create A Great Volunteer Experience

Volunteer experiences are most successful when the expectations of volunteers and the host organization are met. Below are ways volunteers can help us maximize their experience:

  • Commit to a regular schedule: For volunteer work performed on-site, we ask individuals to commit to coming once a week for a minimum of two months. This helps ensure the experience is mutually satisfying for all.
  • Come to a volunteer orientation: Scheduled every month or two, these include a tour of Great Kids Farm, an update of our harvesting and public education efforts, as well as a chance to match your skills and interest with the right volunteer opportunity.
  • Tell us more about you so that we can make a good volunteer match: Before coming to the farm, fill out a volunteer profile through Baltimore City Public Schools. If you don’t hear from one of our staff within a week or two, please contact Kathy Shulman, our Community Engagement Manager.
