Great Kids Farm sets out to educate young people by allowing them to do what they do best—move around and engage all of their senses. Children and young people who visit the farm learn how to plant, grow, nurture, harvest and prepare food. For many, this is their first chance to make a direct, physical connection between food and the earth—and to understand how their food choices affect their health and the health of their families, communities and the environment. This is done through field trips, service learning projects, schoolyard gardens and internships. To learn more, visit
Educating Kids about Growing Food.
The farm also offers students the chance to take their knowledge to the next level and develop the necessary skills to pursue careers in the many job sectors that have to do with food cultivation and production, including the horticultural, culinary, hospitality, environmental and urban agricultural industries.
Linked to Baltimore City Public Schools’ Learning to Work program, young people
use the farm as a hands-on site to learn valuable marketable skills. To learn more, visit
